| Method
201A applies to the in-stack measurement of particulate matter
emissions equal to or less than an aerodynamic diameter of nominally 10
microns, PM10, from
stationary sources. A gas sample is extracted at a constant flow rate
through Apex Instruments cyclone, which separates PM greater than PM10. PM less than PM10
is collected on the in-line filter. In order to maintain a cut size of
10 microns in the cyclone, the flow rate must be maintained at a
constant, discrete value during the run. Our cyclone meets the design
specifications of Method 201A and allows use of the equations in Method
201A to calculate the constant sample flow rate. |
PM10 / Method
201A Cyclone and Accessories
The PM10
Cyclone is built to US EPA specifications for Method 201A testing and
is designed for in-stack measurement of particulate matter equal to or
less than 10 microns. The shank has a 5/8 inch outer diameter for easy
adaptation to Method 5 Probe Assemblies. The cyclone is enclosed in a
sturdy plastic case with eleven nozzles.

and PM10 Combination Cyclones
and Accessories
PM10/PM2.5 Method applies to the in-stack
measurement of particulate matter equal to or less than an aerodynamic
diameter of nominally 10 (PM10)
and 2.5 (PM2.5 ) microns from
stationary sources. The sampling train and operation is identical to
Method 201A except that the PM2.5
cyclone is inserted between the PM cyclone and the filter. The PM10 cyclone collects particulate
matter greater than PM10
while the PM2.5 collects PM
less than PM10 and greater
than PM2.5. The in-line
filter collects PM less than PM2.5.

Cascade Impactor (CI-700) with Precollector Kit (PRA-K)
|
 |
Apex
Instruments’ CI-700 Cascade Impactor is
an in-stack, multi-stage cascade impactor which can attach to standard
EPA and ASME particulate sampling trains and specifically used for
measuring the particle size distribution in stationary emissions. The
Model-700 cascade impactor consists of seven impactor stages that can
separate particle from 0.2 to 17 micron diameter (aerodynamic), solid
or liquid, into eight size classifications which can be used later for
weighing or chemical analysis. Lightweight disposable collection plate
inserts of stainless steel foil allow improved weighing precision and
reduce the need for extra sets of collection plates. |
| A Cyclone Precollector
(PRA-K), used at the inlet of the impactor not only reduces
the particle bounce and re-entrainment problems but also minimizes the
chances of particle overloading at the first impaction stage. The
precollector allows for right angle sampling and for the cascade
impactor to be inserted through a standard port. The precollector kit
includes 6 nozzles, from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch diameter, and the
connecting tube. The precollector can attach to most commercially
available impactors. Sold separately. |

Particle Sizing Data Reduction
Software
This Windows-based Cascade
Impactor Data Reduction
System (WINCIDRS)
calculates particle size distribution of stack particulate matter (PM)
taken with the Mark III Impactor as well as particle-sizing cyclones.
Developed by stack particle analysis experts, this software reduces the
time and chances of error involved with reducing particle sizing data.
|
• Calculates each stages
aerodynamic cut point, DP50,
needed to reduce particle size data
• Calculates and stores ancillary data such as dry gas
composition and moisture content
• Reduces velocity traverse data and aids in selection of
sample flow rates and ideal nozzle size
• Calculates flow rates and dwell times required for PM10 and PM2.5
sampling traverses
• Calculates fractional efficiencies of control devices from
samples obtained at inlets and outlets |
| The PM10/2.5
Software Program (PM-2.5-10C) is extracted from
WinCIDRS and simplified for use only with PM10
and PM2.5 cyclones. The
calculations are similar to the WinCIDRS just scaled-down specifically
for cyclone data reduction. Although the calculations for the cyclones
are not as involved as the cascade impactor, the calculations are still
intensive enough to demand computer software. |
