Modular Sample Cases
Apex
Instruments Modular Sample Case Assemblies are versatile, lightweight
and available in a variety of configurations. We offer two different
filter ovens and two different risers that can attach to the bottom of
both ovens and four different impinger cases. The impinger cases slide
on and off for easy changing of the impingers between test runs.
Several standard assemblies are available or the individual components
can be purchased separately. Please inquire for additional details.

Filter Ovens
The heated filter compartments for both the SB-2M and
SB-2 accept standard 2, 3, and 4 inch filter units. The ovens are
constructed of lightweight aluminum with stainless steel clamps and
hardware and thermally insulated with Kaowool®. Internal
reinforcements reduce flexing of the box when testing with long probes.
Front and rear doors provide greater accessibility. The interior is
lined with non-contaminating aluminum. The rugged tubular heating
element is quick heating and is sealed against moisture. The handle is
designed for attaching to a monorail for easy traversing. The new
stronger 1 inch probe clamp may easily be removed from the oven and
replaced from a selection of alternative probe clamps. The SB-2M is our
most popular model and is designed to be used in the traditional
“rigid” or “flexible”
arrangement. For the “rigid” arrangement a SBR-10
is required for mounting the impinger case. The SB-2 is the traditional
full size filter oven designed exclusively for
“rigid” arrangements requiring a cyclone before the
filter. An alternative mini cyclone is offered for the SB-2M..

Risers
Sample Case Risers attach to the base of the
filter oven for test methods requiring extra height between the filter
outlet and the first impinger. The SBR-10 Riser is required for
attaching the impinger case to the SB-2M for rigid arrangements. The
SBR-18 Riser is primarily used for Modified Method 5 sampling when
using a vertical condenser.

Impinger Cases
Four different removable Impinger Cases are
available. The cases are now constructed from thicker aluminum to
reduce cracking and feature durable polyethylene foam insulation, a
pre-punched foam insert for holding the impinger bottles in place, fold
down handle with rope centering guide and two high strength brackets
for mounting strain relief. The cases slide on and off for easy
changing of the impingers between test samples. All cases except the
caddy are equipped with a spring-loaded latch to prevent accidental
slippage and chrome plated drain valve. The caddy accepts inexpensive
removable liners.

Modular Sample Frame (SB-8)
The Modular Sample Frame (SB-8) with Probe Clamp is an ideal addition
for sampling methods that require no heated filter compartment. Used
with Method 8, Method 306 and in-stack filtration methods. The SB-8
secures the probe and impinger case in a rigid manner.
Tip: The UA-3J supplies power to the probe in set-ups without heated
filter compartment.
