Model 701 Ammonia Slip Analyzer

DESCRIPTION

The CAI Model 701 system consists of an Innova Airtech Model 1312 (1314) Photoacoustic Infrared and a CAI Model 101 Heated sample diluter. The Model 1312 (1314) is an Infrared analyzer with a photoacoustic detector. The analyzer has a dynamic range from 0.07 to 20,000 ppm for ammonia before dilution. Samples containing moisture greater than 1% are appropriately diluted in the 101 heated diluter; and with this analyzer/diluter combination, it is possible to monitor ammonia samples with humidity in excess of 40%. The raw stack sample is drawn by the 101 diluter via heat traced sample lines and a heated internal pump. The appropriately diluted sample is then presented to the 1312 (1314) analyzer for direct analysis.
A critical requirement in the ammonia determination is the transportation of the sample to the analyzer without any losses. Generally, some kind of sample conditioning equipment is used. However, all these processes can result in indeterminate sample losses. As in any extractive technique it is best to transport the sample with heat traced sample lines. Dilution at the stack does not prevent sample losses. The minimum detection limit prior to dilution is 0.07 ppm. The actual minimum detection limit within a sample after dilution depends upon the dilution ratio but is typically down to 0.3 ppm with a 1:5 dilution. This configuration allows the direct analysis of ammonia in samples containing high levels of CO2 and moisture, commonly present in any combustion process. The interference of CO2 in the traditional NDIR ammonia measurements is eliminated by dilution and the cross compensation feature available within the 1312 (1314).
