Beta Attenuation Ambient Particulate Mass Monitor
|
The GBAM-1020 is an absolute ambient mass
monitor for particulate, employing beta attenuation that calculates the
concentration mg/m3. The GBAM has been developed for efficiency, accuracy,
precision, and stability using state-of-the-art electrical components.
It is being introduced as a cost effective ambient particulate monitor
for continuous operation and measurement in networks or single monitoring
stations.

The monitor is accessible by remote communication and includes both
digital and analog outputs for data collection. The on-board data logging
capability stores one year of concentration and operating data. TSP, PM
10, and PM 2.5 size selective inlets are available and are interchangeable
on the monitor. The reliable and accurate mass measurements are assured
by a built in mass calibration reference membrane that can be operator
activated. The beta energy from the C14 source is absorbed by the reference
membrane and is a calibration feature for insuring the correct measurement
by the scintillation detector.
The ambient particulate mass is size separated by the inlet and transported
to the filter tape which is replaced normally every 3 to 4 months. A flow
monitoring system and vacuum pump is utilized and sampling parameters measured
by the microprocessor. When the monitor is activated the background absorbency
of the clean filter spot is measured and sampling begins by collecting
particulate on the filter spot. At conclusion of a user selectable sampling
period the stained filter mass is measured and the processor calculates
the concentration in mg/m3. Both digital displayed and output data and
operating parameters are standard. The GBAM can be configured for both
indoor stations or stand-alone outdoor use. A rugged outdoor weather enclosure
is optional.
